At the heart of the Red Cross/Crescent humanitarian movement since its inception in 1863 is the selfless act to help others without the desire for gain or reward. Volunteers play an important role at the Fiji Red Cross whether it involves assisting socio-disadvantaged client’s needs, becoming a qualified first-aider or fund-raising activities. These are just a few of the tasks volunteers undertake depending on the needs in the community. There are a number of levels of volunteers ranging from the service level to professional people who support us with particular expertise.

Donate your money

Contrary to public opinion, Fiji Red Cross, like all other 185 National Sister Societies, is not internationally funded. We are in the ‘not for profit’ business to serve vulnerable people in our own countries. As an organisation we have to create awareness to generate support, fundraise to administer and implement our programmes, lobby to bring about changes in public policy and work closely with local and overseas government and aid agencies. We work hard to be financially self-funding by running fee earning courses, but the reality is that we still rely heavily on donor funding.

The spirit of community, indeed the spirit of humanity, is manifested in an outstretched hand. Whether it be an individual response or the collective action or persuasion of an organisation, please stretch out your hand in support of the Fiji Red Cross.
